An introduction to the Education group

Halifax friends of Palestine is a group of local people from diverse backgrounds, professions, faiths and persuasions drawn together by a desire to promote a just peace in Palestine.

Within Halifax Friends of Palestine we have a working party on education. This sub group is comprised of people with an active involvement in education. Our group contains a governor of two local schools, a former head teacher, other teachers experienced with secondary school and sixth form college students and a member of Leeds Diocese Justice and Peace Commission. It is our aim to devise educational materials which would promote an interest in the situation in Palestine, encouraging young people to engage with issues they will hear about in the media but not fully have understood. We aim to post materials and ideas on the website which could be of use to people involved in education.

We have been heartened by the NUT's recent decision to affiliate to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, a move which we feel signals the widespread desire within the teaching profession for a just peace for Palestinians.
